Day 4 of Regional Bank Earnings: Huntington, Regions and Comerica

Many investors entered the second-quarter earnings season expecting the worst for regional banks. But that didn’t materialize in the results released this week, at least not for the bigger players.

Another round of earnings results Friday also showed stabilizing deposits at regional lenders:

Deposits at Huntington were up 2% from the previous quarter and a year earlier. The bank beat earnings per share estimates from analysts surveyed by FactSet.

Regions said deposits fell slightly over the quarter and 8% from a year earlier. The bank met analyst forecasts.

At Comerica, deposits rose 2% from the previous quarter but were down 13% from a year earlier. Comerica topped Wall Street expectations.
